About us – bettinginfo-nz

Newcomers to betting in New Zealand tend to ask the same few questions, and bettinginfo-nz is organised around them: how a price turns into a probability, what separates a tote from fixed odds, what a promotion actually demands and what the law permits. No bets are taken here, no tips are sold and no return is promised, since a certain winner does not exist.

Checking who is allowed to take bets

New Zealand keeps no register of licensed bookmakers for a simple reason: the law admits one provider. Since 28 June 2025 only TAB NZ may offer racing and sports betting to people in New Zealand, under the brands TAB and Betcha. The basis is the Department of Internal Affairs together with the Racing Industry Act 2020 and the Racing Industry Amendment Act 2025. The Department says an overseas company offering these bets is breaking the law, and the same material shows the law aims at the operator and not the punter. Appearing in a ranking is never the same as holding a licence.

Working with sources

Statements about the provider are drawn from its terms, help pages and footers. Legal statements are drawn from the statutes and from public bodies. Odds and promotions move quickly, so any figure carries the time and place it applied, and where sources give out the text uses words and invents no number.

Readers and limits

The site addresses adults in New Zealand, as betting with TAB NZ requires age 18. It is neither legal nor tax advice. A reader who feels betting is taking more space than intended can approach the Gambling Helpline or Safer Gambling Aotearoa.
